How BTP CFA Occitanie brought the 51 buildings of its 5 campuses into a single database
Five campuses, 51 buildings and as many ways of filing documents: a sizeable challenge. Workshops, training rooms and boarding houses were scanned in 3D across 47,771 m², then brought together in a database that can be consulted from one campus to the next.

In brief
- The client
- BTP CFA Occitanie, 5 campuses training people for construction.
- The problem
- 51 buildings documented differently from one campus to the next.
- The solution
- 3D scan, BIM model and a multi-site estate database.
- The result
- 47,771 m² digitised, 51 buildings in a single database and information available in one click from every campus.
Context
A network training people for careers in construction across five campuses
BTP CFA Occitanie prepares apprentices for careers in construction on five campuses. Technical workshops, training rooms, boarding houses: 51 buildings in use all year round by apprentices and staff. Maintenance, safety, compliance, energy: every management decision depends on precise knowledge of the premises. A network that trains people for construction ought to know its own buildings well.
Yet that knowledge was spread across the sites, in documents of different formats. For a multi-site network, the issue went beyond each individual building: it needed a common, consistent and up-to-date database, available from every campus. Anyone who manages several sites will recognise the situation.
Knowledge of the estate scattered across the campuses
Each site knew its own buildings, but the network had no overall view. Everything started from one question. How to get a reliable, shared view of the buildings, from one campus to the next?
- Scattered data, specific to each site: plans, technical files and surveys, in different formats and places.
- Workshops and boarding houses to document: equipment whose location would benefit from being referenced precisely.
- Audits that started from scratch: with no common reference, each diagnostic was prepared without a reliable basis.
Getting a consolidated view of the estate therefore meant piecing it back together, case by case.
The solution
An estate digitised without interrupting activity on the campuses
The work ran in four stages, and the first was the smartest. Before any scanning, the building inventory and the scoping of the goals (maintenance, safety, compliance, energy) made it possible to use the plans, technical files and spreadsheets already available. The 51 buildings were then scanned in 3D while the campuses carried on as normal, and structured into a hierarchy: sites, buildings, levels.
What the survey delivered
Results
51 buildings, one single database shared between the sites
The project covered the whole planned scope: five campuses, 51 buildings, 47,771 m² scanned, up-to-date plans and equipment inventoried. From then on, the data collected is reused from one audit to the next, without redoing the surveys for each diagnostic.

Conclusion
The network no longer rediscovers its estate with every project
Each of the three initial obstacles has found its answer. Documents scattered from one campus to another have given way to a single database, organised by site, building and level. The workshops and boarding houses have their equipment located, with its technical data attached to the spaces. And audits and maintenance are now prepared on verified information, before anyone even arrives on site. For a network that trains people for careers in construction, it makes a fine demonstration.
